To be able to prevent pressure ulcers, and to care for those who have them

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognise the warning signs of pressure sores
  • Be aware of the most common places they occur
  • Understand how they are graded
  • Know the process of how wounds heal
  • Identify risk factors that may compromise healing
  • Understand the clinical responsibilities regarding reporting and safeguarding
  • Be aware of the costs of pressure ulcers to the patient, and to the medical industry
  • Know the correct forms and records surrounding pressure ulcers, and how to complete them effectively
  • Understand the primary treatment given to a resident with a pressure ulcer
