This course is aimed at anyone who cares for people living with visual impairments

Course Aims

To be able to care for those with visual impairments

Learning Outcomes

  • Know what is meant by Visual Impairment 
  • Understand the difficulties people with visual impairments might have in their day-to-day activities 
  • Be aware of the need for effective risk assessments
  • Know of factors to consider when providing care for those with visual impairment
  • Understand what issues can occur when a person with dementia also has a visual impairment 
  • Recognise activities that can be engaging for those with a visual impairment
  • Recognise some of the common medical causes for visual impairment 
  • Know how vision is tested 
  • Understand the readings of a Snellen test
  • Be aware of what counts as severely sight impaired, and sight impaired
  • Be aware of the technology and equipment available for those living with impaired vision
